Background
Everyday throughout Canada, Border Services Officers are responsible for ensuring the security of Canada and its people. Having been inspired by a three year old boy named Dominic and his fight against leukemia, the Border Services family embarked on a journey to bring awareness to the plight of young children battling against childhood cancer. Thus was born the Border Services Kick for a Cure Initiative, a quest to kicking childhood cancer where it hurts, to lift spirits and help make it easier for families to say lets keep on fighting.
For five years now, the Kick for a cure Initiative has been honored to join forces with the Michael Cuccione Foundation and send a message of hope and renewed commitment to lead the fight against Childhood Cancer. This is the Border Services’ way of giving back and taking a stand for these children battling to stay alive. We are here to let them know that they are heroes to many and that we will not rest until a cure is found.
It goes without saying that the Border Services family, the Michael Cuccione Foundation and the BC Children Hospital benefit so greatly from our commitment. The Kick for a cure initiative gives us the chance to honor the children we are toiling to help as well as appreciating the impact our participation is making on all those families affected by childhood cancer.
Healing Wheels Motorcycle Ride
Healing Wheels: Border Services Ride for Childhood Cancer will engage the riding community in a unique opportunity to ride from Burnaby to Pemberton on August 6, raising both awareness and critical funding to support and steer families through their cancer experience.
The ride is open to any licensed rider, and will include significant participation from other law-enforcement communities, emergency services communities and the communities at large.
Our Mission is to heighten awareness in BC for the critical need for childhood-specific cancer research, support for families facing the challenges of cancer and cancer treatment for their children.
